The Interstellar Medium: Understanding the Gas and Dust Between the Stars.


     The space between the stars in a galaxy is not empty. Instead, it contains a mixture of gas and dust called the interstellar medium (ISM). This material is crucial to the formation and evolution of stars and planets, as well as the overall structure of a galaxy. What is the Interstellar Medium? 

     The interstellar medium is the gas and dust that fills the space between the stars in a galaxy. It is made up of several components, including molecular gas, atomic gas, and dust particles.
